Chicagoland Youth Organizing Summit July 23-July 25 2004 Greater Chicago Metro Area Initiated by the Education Not Empire Coalition
next planning meeting for 2004 Youth Organizing Summit Tuesday June 1st 7:00 PM SHARP 1908 S. Halsted (Halsted + 19th) #3F Bring Food and Friends!
Background: Chicago currently has a multitude of youth and student organizations that are mobilizing for social justice, community empowerment, and creative alternatives to our destructive society. Unfortunately, many of these groups have not been networking or collaborating to a point where we are actively supporting each other. Our generation is waking up and realizing that we are inheriting an unsustainable cycle of violence and destruction - and we must be organized to stop it. It is time that we provide a grassroots, empowering alternative to MTV nation and take our movements to the next step.
In order to facilitate better networking, and provide students and youth from all over Chicagoland with the skills to organize and empower themselves, the Education Not Empire Coalition is hosting a Youth Organizing Summit from Friday, July 23-Sunday July 25. Our vision is that we will have 3 days filled with workshops, skillshares, teach-ins, film screenings, art showcases, music shows, and networking sessions. We need people and/or groups to propose workshops, attend meetings, and help us secure locations for our events. All proposals, questions, or voices of support can be sent to studentliberation@ziplip.com.
In solidarity, The Education Not Empire Coalition
